One of Canada's most versatile and unique stage and screen performers, Julian Richings is a familiar presence in the Canadian entertainment industry.
Most recently, Julian starred in Stan Winston’s horror film, WRONG TURN and is featured in Kevin Costner’s western, OPEN RANGE. Julian appeared in Isabel Coixet’s feature MY LIFE WITHOUT ME (Lion’s Gate Films) opposite Sarah Polley. Michael Winterbottom’s feature THE CLAIM (Revolution Films), with Peter Mullan and Wes Bentley, garnered him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Genie Awards). Other recent credits include BETWEEN FRIENDS, directed by Eduardo Ponti, WASHED UP (Black Walk Films), SHINY NEW ENEMIES (Lion’s Gate) and Arto Parmaganian’s 2000 AND NONE (Galafilm) in which he co-starred opposite John Turturro. Other film credits include THE RED VIOLIN, CUBE, URBAN LEGEND, HARD CORE LOGO, MIMIC, DETROIT ROCK CITY, TAIL LIGHTS FADE and MOONLIGHT AND VALENTINO. Julian’s television credits include series regular roles in PETER BENCHLEY’S AMAZON (Alliance Atlantis), JOHN WOO’S ONCE A THIEF and I WAS A SIXTH GRADE ALIEN (YTV). Guest appearances include TWITCH CITY, PSI FACTOR, DUE SOUTH,, THE ADVENTURES OF SHIRLEY HOLMES, NIKITA, and LONESOME DOVE as well as tv movies, NERO WOLFE (A&E), THE CROSSING, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, BROTHERS IN ARMS and SCROOGE: A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
A two time Dora Mavor Moore Award winner, Julian was last seen on the Toronto stage in THE PIPER (Factory Theatre), SHOPPING AND F*CKING (Dumaurier Theatre) and INEXPRESSIBLE ISLAND (Necessary Angel). Other stage credits include TWELFTH NIGHT and A DOLL’S HOUSE (Atlantic Theatre Company), THE WARS OF THE ROSES and AS YOU LIKE IT (Canadian Stage Co.), LION IN THE STREETS (Tarragon Theatre) ELEPHANT MAN and AMADEUS (Persephone Theatre).
Born and raised in Oxford, England, Julian Richings now makes his home with his family in Toronto.
